✛ This role is being managed exclusively by HYTE on a retained basis ✛

Direct applications and confidential enquiries are welcomed.

✛ Overview ✛

HYTE is supporting an innovative electric aviation company developing next-generation electric propulsion systems for regional aircraft.

The organisation is building the technology required to support the transition toward fully electric, zero-emissions aviation, with programmes focused on aircraft conversion, propulsion integration and certification.

To support the continued growth of its engineering capability, the company is seeking a Hardware Lead Engineer to take ownership of the hardware development domain.

This role combines technical authority, system architecture responsibility and engineering team leadership, ensuring hardware systems are developed, verified and certified in line with demanding aviation standards.

The successful individual will drive hardware development across the full lifecycle — from architecture and design through verification and certification — while coordinating and growing the internal hardware engineering team.

✛ Key Responsibilities ✛

  • Lead the end-to-end hardware development lifecycle, from requirements definition through design, implementation, verification and certification
  • Define hardware architectures and technical strategies aligned with system and certification requirements
  • Act as the technical authority for hardware design decisions across the programme
  • Lead and mentor the hardware engineering team, supporting planning, prioritisation and technical direction
  • Coordinate hardware activities across systems, software, propulsion, airframe and certification teams
  • Oversee schematic design, PCB layout and hardware integration, including high-voltage and safety-critical systems
  • Ensure robust design practices covering EMI/EMC, environmental constraints and reliability
  • Support hardware-software integration for systems including battery management, power electronics and motor control
  • Guide verification and analysis activities using tools such as MATLAB and LTSpice
  • Ensure hardware documentation, traceability and certification evidence are maintained in line with aviation standards

✛ Candidate Profile ✛

  • Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
  • Strong experience developing hardware for safety-critical systems
  • Proven experience leading technical engineering activities and coordinating engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of RTCA DO-254 hardware design assurance and certification processes
  • Experience with EMI/EMC and environmental testing
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer
  • Experience using LTSpice and MATLAB for hardware analysis and verification
  • Understanding of high-voltage PCB design and operation in aviation environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Professional working proficiency in technical English
  • Previous experience within aviation, aerospace, electric propulsion, or advanced mobility environments is highly advantageous

✛ Take your career to new HYTEs ✛

  • Opportunity to contribute to one of the most exciting transitions in modern aviation
  • Key technical leadership role within a fast-growing electric aviation programme
  • Exposure to aircraft certification, electric propulsion systems and advanced hardware development
  • Collaborative engineering environment with significant technical ownership
  • Competitive salary, flexible working options and participation in long-term incentive programmes
